Steve Rubel says he’s seeing experts advocate the use of social media to influence search optimization, “rather than with the intent of fostering collaboration and genuine communication.” Effective use of social media is challenging compared to a strategy that simply creates more online real estate and more links. Strategies based on quantity over quality make sense to marketers whose heads just naturally go there. Steve says this presents a “clear and present danger” to the social web community, but I think that’s an overstatement. We can always interpret cluelessness as damage and route around it. [LInk]
